Was the original decision to lease the land to the gas operators discussed in a public meeting and voted on by the City Council back in 2007? What City Ordinance covers this issue of leasing city-owned land for development of mining operations? Thanks.
The original decision to lease the land to the gas operators was NOT discussed in a public meeting or in an open City Council meeting. It was voted upon in a City Council Briefing Session. What I find egregious is that the City Manager obligated the City Council and citizens by agreeing to accept $34 million dollars from the gas industry for the "privelege" to drill. Now the Gas Industry says they will sue the city if they are not allowed to drill. But the THREATENING OF MUNICIPALITIES WITH LAW SUITS HAS NEVER BEEN TESTED.
I don't know what gave the City the right to lease city-owned land for development of mining operations. Good question.
So, I guess the Municipal Code says it's OK for Dallas to take money without a Public Hearing, but not so OK to spend it? In this case, it sure looks like the City was deaf, dumb and blonde to the whole matter.
So, what did the City spend the money on? Is it all gone?
A Freedom of Information (FOI) request was made to the City of Dallas. Our attorneys are reviewing the documents received between the Gas Industry and the City of Dallas.
As far as, where did the $34 million go, we were told by the City that it went into the General Fund. It was spent.
Great headline! Is that Ed? So what are you going to do??
ReplyDeleteWell, it is Ed. Ed Wynn.
